HEADTEACHER’S WELCOME ADDRESS
Welcome and thank you for your interest in Abbey School
Across four decades, Abbey JMI School has built a proud tradition of nurturing future leaders and thoughtful innovators. We have steadily sustained a culture of high-quality teaching and learning, one that invites pupils to think beyond the obvious, sharpen their skills with purpose, and grow in confidence within an environment where they are respected, valued, and secure.
Abbey School offers a broad and balanced Nigerian curriculum, whilst incorporating some features of the British method. Our rigorous academic curriculum opens avenues of opportunities for our pupils to investigate and discover, and to use the knowledge, skills and understanding they have acquired to solve problems and find solutions. Alongside this, through involvement in sports, debating, creative and performing arts, leadership and service, our pupils discover their creativity, teamwork, and other life lessons they will take with them after graduating. It is our goal that each student will go from strength to strength, develop courage and resilience, and have a strong sense of self, so they can go on to shape their worlds into the future. Abbey pupils compete successfully at various top competitions, and we are very proud of the consistent high performance at such events.
A school with a strong sense of community, Abbey School is an open and inclusive community of learners, serving the needs of our Stars. We encourage our pupils to develop curiosity, imagination and confidence in themselves. We teach them to be compassionate and caring, thoughtful of others. We want them to think and problem solve, as well as develop independence, and personal and social responsibility. We want them to aspire to be the best they can be, while also putting emphasis on teamwork and collaboration. Our Stars are also encouraged to rejoice in the success of all and imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and togetherness.
Every Abbey pupil is unique, and we are committed to ensuring that no child is left behind as we recognise the needs of all our pupils. Striving to achieve your personal best is a salient part of our culture; therefore, we support our pupils with a team of dedicated, talented and passionate staff, eager themselves to further their own learning in the interests of their pupils. Our robust assessment process ensures that we intervene when required to enable all our pupils to make good progress. We value and understand the importance of the home and school working together, ensuring that we encourage our pupils to interact with each other, showing respect and good manners. We are also dedicated to developing children who communicate with self-confidence, making them children who know “what counts and how to count”.
I take great pride in being part of the Abbey family and in working with colleagues who are united in advancing our school’s progress, elevating standards, and upholding our motto, A Path to Excellence.
